This year, the valve will be closed on the normal date of November 1st to begin the lake lowering process. The baffles in the control box will be raised so that the lake will have the opportunity to lower to it’s lowest point.
The lake is lowered for several reasons. The main reasons include protection of shorelines from ice, to allow for easier access to make repairs to shorelines and docks, and to relieve pressure on the dam.
Of course, the weather is the main driver in when, and if, the water reaches winter pool. It generally takes 2-3 weeks for the lake to lower to full winter pool. If we experience periods of rain then it will take longer.
We can not control how fast the water lowers. The valve will be completely open as it always is in the winter.
