Dan Blazer and Ernie Sparks have finalized the lineups for the 2021 Choctaw Lake Summer Concert Series. Below, Dan Blazer provides dates and a great summary of this year’s music events!
The Choctaw Lake Summer Concert Series for 2021 promises to be an extremely exciting year featuring many “high energy” bands. This year we have elected to schedule the best bands we have had the pleasure to listen to over the last 3 years. As last year, this year our concerts are sponsored by Ernie Sparks and Ernie’s Pharmacy. Here is the schedule for this year.
May 29 (Saturday) – The Temps
June 26 (Saturday) – The Locals
July 17 (Saturday) – Rendition
August 7 (Saturday) – Paradise Island Band
August 21 (Saturday) – Ashley Martin
September 5 (Sunday) – The Wayfarers/23 Southbound
The Temps are a high energy 1980’s through 2000’s rock band that put on different costumes as the night proceeds. Their costumes represent the era of the music they are playing for that set. The Temps had more people dancing last year than any other act during the summer. “The Locals” will entertain us with their brand of rockin roll. They represent, of sorts, an all-star group of musicians with a female lead singer from various bands from Dayton, OH that come together a few times a year for special events. The Locals were the surprise of last year’s 2020 Summer Concert Series.
Rendition has an outstanding horn section and plays music that takes advantage of that. They also have a famous drummer from Choctaw Lake (i.e., Ernie Sparks ). The Paradise Island Band is a rock/soul/funk band that features a fabulous female singer and saxophone player. They play a high-energy selection of soul and funk songs. Ashley Martin is a singer-songwriter from the heart of America. Ashley now tours the country with her four-piece band. She has created a unique style all her own – a mix of country, rock and pop.
Finally, at our last concert of the year (i.e., Community Days) we feature two bands: 1) The Wayfarers fuse tight musicianship – centered largely by the fiddle – with the high energy that characterized early mountain music. With old-time radio shows setting the example, their style encompasses Appalachian dance music, traditional mountain fiddle tunes, and pre-bluegrass music of the 1920’s – resulting in a dose of nostalgic Americana…and 2) “23 Southbound” is Columbus Ohio’s premier country band. Comprised of four seasoned musicians, who have been playing an array of genres in multiple groups for several years now. They have opened for CMA, ACM, and Grammy Award winning Kentucky Headhunters and opened multiple times for McGuffey Lane.
Our concerts this year should be amazing! Again, many thanks to Ernie Sparks and Ernie’s Pharmacy for sponsoring our Summer Concert Series.
