Pet Microchip Clinic this Saturday, August 5

August 2, 2017

We all have seen loose dogs running around the neighborhood

Even the most conscientious owners sometimes find themselves missing their beloved pet.  Traditional modes of identification, like pet tags or collars, need to be replaced regularly, can slip off or be removed, or can become hard to read.  Microchip readers, however, last for the life of the pet.  Plainly, your cat or dog’s microchip implant gives your pet the best chance of returning home to you if lost.

What is a microchip and how does it work?

A microchip is small chip – about the size of a piece of rice – implanted into a pet’s neck.  It contains contact information for the pet’s owner.  The Choctaw Lake deputies, vet clinics, and most dog wardens have a microchip reader that they can use to scan your pet’s neck and retrieve the contact information contained on the microchip.  The implantation and registration process is safe, simple, takes only a couple of minutes, and is virtually painless.

Mark your calendars for this Saturday!

If your pet is not currently microchipped, mark your calendar for August 5th.  From 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Dr. J.J. Coate of Sunnyside Veterinary Clinic will be at the Lodge implanting microchips for only $25 per pet.  For more information, please contact Fundraising and Volunteers Committee member Sheena Helm at slittlehelm@gmail.com.  Preregistration is preferred but not required.  Walk-ins are welcome.  If you have a pet-related business that you would like feature at the clinic, please contact Sheena.

Many thanks to Dr. Coate and the Fundraising and Volunteers Committee for hosting the clinic and protecting our pets.
