2021 Choctaw Lake Summer Concert Series

March 10, 2021

Dan Blazer and Ernie Sparks have finalized the lineups for the 2021 Choctaw Lake Summer Concert Series. Below, Dan Blazer provides dates and a great summary of this year’s music events!

The Choctaw Lake Summer Concert Series for 2021 promises to be an extremely exciting year featuring many “high energy” bands.  This year we have elected to schedule the best bands we have had the pleasure to listen to over the last 3 years.  As last year, this year our concerts are sponsored by Ernie Sparks and Ernie’s Pharmacy.  Here is the schedule for this year.

May 29 (Saturday) – The Temps

June 26 (Saturday) – The Locals

July 17 (Saturday) – Rendition

August 7 (Saturday) – Paradise Island Band

August 21 (Saturday) – Ashley Martin

September 5 (Sunday) – The Wayfarers/23 Southbound

The Temps are a high energy 1980’s through 2000’s rock band that put on different costumes as the night proceeds.  Their costumes represent the era of the music they are playing for that set.  The Temps had more people dancing last year than any other act during the summer.  “The Locals” will entertain us with their brand of rockin roll.  They represent, of sorts, an all-star group of musicians with a female lead singer from various bands from Dayton, OH that come together a few times a year for special events.  The Locals were the surprise of last year’s 2020 Summer Concert Series.

Rendition has an outstanding horn section and plays music that takes advantage of that.  They also have a famous drummer from Choctaw Lake (i.e., Ernie Sparks ).  The Paradise Island Band is a rock/soul/funk band that features a fabulous female singer and saxophone player.  They play a high-energy selection of soul and funk songs.  Ashley Martin is a singer-songwriter from the heart of America.  Ashley now tours the country with her four-piece band.  She has created a unique style all her own – a mix of country, rock and pop.

Finally, at our last concert of the year (i.e., Community Days) we feature two bands:  1) The Wayfarers fuse tight musicianship – centered largely by the fiddle – with the high energy that characterized early mountain music.  With old-time radio shows setting the example, their style encompasses Appalachian dance music, traditional mountain fiddle tunes, and pre-bluegrass music of the 1920’s – resulting in a dose of nostalgic Americana…and 2) “23 Southbound” is Columbus Ohio’s premier country band.  Comprised of four seasoned musicians, who have been playing an array of genres in multiple groups for several years now. They have opened for CMA, ACM, and Grammy Award winning Kentucky Headhunters and opened multiple times for McGuffey Lane.

Our concerts this year should be amazing!  Again, many thanks to Ernie Sparks and Ernie’s Pharmacy for sponsoring our Summer Concert Series.

MUSIC CLUB DONATION!

September 30, 2020

THANK YOU MUSIC CLUB!

Meetings are about to sound much better….literally! Pictured are 3 wireless units that will allow us to utilize the new microphones without having wires all over the floor. This will allow for much faster setup, cleaner look, easier use for speakers, and much better sound quality for the audience.

The total donation was just under $1,000.00. Thank you so much Music Club!!

I urge the community to continue supporting the Music Club events. Money raised at these events is donated back to help enhance community experiences. The quality of sound at our meetings has been enhanced again by the Music Club!

Choctaw Lake Summer Concert Series for 2020 By Dan Blazer

April 15, 2020

The Choctaw Lake Summer Concert Series for 2020 promises to be a very, very exciting year.  Again this year our concerts are sponsored by Ernie Sparks and Ernie’s Pharmacy.

Our primary featured act this year is Phil Dirt and the Dozers.  Phil Dirt, a classic rock band, plays all over the US and on ocean-going cruises drawing large crowds with their music wherever they go.  Interestingly, Choctaw Lake is familiar with Phil Dirt as they used to play at our lake many years ago.  We look forward to welcoming Phil Dirt again to Choctaw and to rockin out to their music.  Also being featured on another evening is country singer Wyatt McCubbin (whose operating base is Nashville) and The Wayfarers an Appalachian dance/mountain music band (from Zanesville, OH).  Both of these acts have made many EPs/CDs and their music is exceptional.

Returning from last year are The Temps, The Paradise Island Band and Rendition.  The Temps are a high energy 1980’s through 2000’s rock band that put on different costumes as the night proceeds.  Their costumes represent the era of the music they are playing for that set.  The Temps had more people dancing last year than any other act during the summer.  The Paradise Island Band is a rock/soul/funk band that features a fabulous female singer and saxophone player.  Rendition has an outstanding horn section and plays music that takes advantage of that.  They also have a famous drummer from Choctaw Lake (i.e., Ernie Sparks J).  Last but not least, “The Locals” will entertain us with their brand of rockin roll.  They represent, of sorts, an all-star group of musicians with a female lead singer from various bands from Dayton, OH that come together a few times a year for special events.  Our concerts this year should be amazing!

Again, many thanks to Ernie Sparks and Ernie’s Pharmacy for sponsoring our Summer Concert Series.  Here are the dates and associated acts.  I also want to thank Ryan Peters for his help in putting together this year’s Summer Concert Series bands.

May 30 (Saturday) – The Temps

June 20 (Saturday) – The Paradise Island Band

July 18 (Saturday) – Rendition

August 1 (Saturday) – The Locals

August 22 (Saturday) – The Wyatt McCubbin Band & The Wayfarers

September 6 (Sunday) – Phil Dirt and the Dozers

Music Social!! October 11th

October 2, 2019

Are you missing the nights out listening to live music….? If so, the Music Club has the cure for your blues. Friday October 11th will be the first Music Social. This event takes place at the Lodge.

More details to come from the Music Club.

I encourage you to attend. One, its really good music provided by your talented neighbors in the community. Second, it’s just a good time. Lastly, the Music Club makes every effort to not only provide entertainment for the community, but to give back to help enhance the association. Recently, they assisted in purchasing 4 new speakers by donating funds from their club account. These speakers were used at the Summer Concert series, and will be used for meetings in the Lodge.

Your support is greatly appreciated! (And I am not sure if they will actually play Blues music…but it will cure your need for live music 🙂 )
