Message from Chief Rosales

Hello everyone, 

I hope you are doing well and had a great Christmas. This year has flown by and of course, life has been different these past two years with covid but we are fighting through. We have reached that time of the year when we say goodbye to 2021 and HELLO 2022. I know there will be many holiday parties taking place this coming weekend. I would like to share some safety reminders with all of you. 


In 2020, the State of Ohio saw 16,350 stops, 18,433 stops in 2021 ( In 2021 Madison County had two Fatal OVI Crashes) Let’s make sure these numbers go DOWN in 2022. Think before you drive! There is always another way home. If you drink too much at a party, you need to have a Designated Driver. Check with a neighbor or call an UBER if you don’t have a DD. DO NOT WALK HOME. Walking in the dark is very dangerous. If you can not find a ride home, then call and ask for a Sheriff’s Deputy to assist in getting you home.  The deputy may be able to personally help or arrange a ride. Do not drink and drive. 

Please know that several deputies will be working this weekend to assist with keeping everyone safe. Please plan ahead to make the right choice. Do not chance driving under the influence.

Operation Christmas

Hello Everyone,

We have a few dates coming up that I want to remind everyone about regarding our annual Operation Christmas. We will be collecting money, food, toys, and clothing for those in need during the holidays. We currently have 5 days scheduled to collect the much-needed items. All donations will be going to the H.E.L.P. House in London. We also have some families that are needing people that are willing to “adopt a family” this season. Adopting a family means that we would give you a list of items that the children in a certain family have asked Santa for.  You would buy those items and bring them back to us. ( Do not wrap the items. They must be NEW and not used )

The dates for these events will be December  3rd, 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th.  Each event is from 5 PM-7 PM.  The location is the Lodge Conference Room.

On December 5th at 3pm the Christmas Parade will take place. The start and end location of the parade will be at the Lodge. You can bring donation items to the lodge that day beginning at 3 pm.

We are also taking Donations for the Madison County Humane Society. Checks are to be made out to the Humane Society. Items to donate include:

  • Treats
  • Cat litter
  • Bleach for cleaning
  • White copy paper
  • Pet beds
  • Toys
  • Food

Junkyard boat Derby Rules! Community Days Event

JUNKYARD BOAT DERBY ( COMMUNITY DAY )
The Choctaw Lake Junkyard Boat Derby will take place, as usual, the day before Labor Day as part of Choctaw’s Community Days celebration: Sunday, Sept 5th at 4:00 PM. This year the event will be put on by the Choctaw Booster club and led by Patrol Chief Jake Rosales. The Rules and guidelines are as follows:

  • Anything that floats and meets the guidelines below is eligible to enter.
  • Must be human or wind powered ( Paddles, Pedaled, sailed ect ) NO MOTORS
  • All boats will be inspected prior to the race. All construction materials must be JUNK that did not come from an actual boat, raft, personal watercraft, inflatable, or any other type of floating vessel.
  • Junk means salvaged and not purchased. Paint and materials that hold the boat together such as duct tape, rope, screws, glue, ect are the ONLY exceptions.
  • Any boat that threatens the safety of its passengers or other race participants, or spectators will be disqualified at the discretion of the judges or Chief Rosales. 
  • The name of the boat MUST be readable by spectators and the judges. It can be painted on both sides or attached. If placed on the boat it needs to be placed securely so it does not fall off. Wind conditions may dictate the direction of the race so please have the vessel’s name on both sides.
  • Boats that raced in prior years will be eligible to enter this year.

Each group will start when the judges determine that all boats are lined up correctly and behind the starting line. Entrants under the age of 18 must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate in the race. Racers in the 12 and under group MUST wear a Coast Guard Approved Flotation Device while in the water. 

Awards will be given out in the following categories: Best Looking, Best Costume, Most Creative, and Patrol Chief Pick.

There will be FOUR groups. 12 and under, 13-17, and adult (18 and older) Cash prizes provided by the Booster Club will be awarded for each boat that places first ( $50 ) and second place ( $25) for each of those age categories. The last Group will be East Side vs West Side residents ( Winners get bragging rights ONLY) 

Registration:  You have a few options this year. You can email Chief Rosales at sheriffpatrol@choctawlake.com with your information or you can fill out the registration form and return it to the Lake Office. Forms will be in the Lodge office. Information that will be needed is Email Address, Phone Number, Name and Age of participants, name of boat as well as category ( Each person that’s on the boat must be listed on the form/email) Age of the oldest person on board will need to be listed this determines which group each boat enters.

National Night Out! Tuesday, August 3rd

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
Join us August 3rd starting at 5pm at the Arrowhead/ Beach for a fun-filled day meeting your
local police, fire and first responders. Free food and live music from the Band Counterpoint and
Rendition as well as Medflight helicopter landing and several live demonstrations such as
vehicle extraction, dive team, K9, and Sheriff Horse.

CLPOA Rule of the Week: Speeding Fines

The speed limit on all roads is 25 mph. If patrol pulls you over for speeding, at a minimum you will be issued a lake citation for speeding. Per the association rules, the first offense includes a $50.00 fine. Additional lake citations for speeding by any family member that resides at your lot will be issued fines according to the fine schedule below.

Example: Dad, Mom, and their son gets pulled over 3 separate times in a period that is less than 12 months from the previous incident. The fine schedule would be $50.00, $50.00, $100.00.

As you know, the deputies that patrol Choctaw Lake are County commissioned deputies. They have the authority to issue state speeding citations to you if they decide that your violation warrants a state citation. You will not be issued a lake fine if you are issued a state citation. You are not immune to state citations while driving in the Choctaw Lake community due to being a resident, or due to CLPOA having a speeding violation schedule.

Non-residents can only be issued state citations.

Please be sure to review the speed limit with your family, visitors, and contractors.
