We dedicated our Choctaw Lake Veteran’s Memorial Statue on Memorial Day Weekend. There was a very nice ceremony with speeches given by Christine Cooney, Bob Hackett and Colonel Brad Tannehill. The dedication was completed by a very moving rendition of “Taps” by Butch Clements. But, there was one thing that was still missing at the time, and it was the individual plaques to be made for each of the two Choctaw residents who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country while serving in the military. Their names are James M. McCarty (US Navy) and Matthew P. Ruffner (US Army). We are pleased to announce that their individual plaques have now been procured and placed on our Veteran’s Memorial. Our community wants to never forget these service men and honor their names. Thanks goes to the Choctaw Musician’s Club for providing the funds to purchase the two 3’x10’ plaques.
