At the October 8, 2019 Board of Trustees meeting, the Trustees established an exploratory committee to determine the feasibility of pursuing nonprofit status of Choctaw Utilities.
The committee is comprised of three members from each entity. Christine Cooney, Suprena Lohrer, and Dave Wheatley representing Choctaw Lake Property Owners Association; and Kent Feliks, Bob O’Connor, and Dave Rankin representing Choctaw Utilities. Christine Cooney and Kent Feliks are co-chairs on the committee.
The committee is exploratory in nature only. That is, it is acquiring the necessary documents and advice from accountants and attorneys on whether or not such a change would be good for Choctaw Lake Property Owners. Additionally, the committee is looking to other local water companies also operating as nonprofits.
Once the committee has determined its findings, members will report back to their respective boards with a suggested course of action. Should it be determined that such a change is possible, feasible, and beneficial to the community, the decision will be taken to the property owners for final approval.
To reiterate and emphasize, the committee is exploratory in nature. All committee members are performing a due diligence to determine what the best course of action is for the ultimate benefit of Choctaw Lake Property Owners Association. Furthermore, if a change in status is recommended, property owners will be given the opportunity to vote on such a change.
Committee members are available by email and phone if you have any questions or concerns. Members of both the Choctaw Utilities and the CLPOA boards are also available if you’d like to contact them with your questions and concerns.
