Those that walk the west side may have noticed the work going on at the intersection of Yuma and Cherokee. This work is part of a two-phase project to improve the drainage along the entire north end of Cherokee.
During heavy rain events, many properties in this area experience significant flooding. On occasions, the northeast end of Cherokee Drive is underwater.
The solution to improving this area includes correcting a major flow issue at the outlet pipe on Yuma and reducing the volume of surface water that enters the northwest end of Cherokee from our watershed.
Thank you to the residents in this area for providing valuable feedback about the history of this situation, and working with the drainage committee on ideas for solutions. This information, combined with consulting with our drainage contractor and the Madison County Engineer, allowed us to put together a scope of work to greatly improve this area of the community.
