Week 1 at Choctaw Lake

July 21, 2017

Hello Community!

I am approaching the end of my first week as the Choctaw Lake Manager.  One of my main deciding factors for accepting this position was the positive interaction with the board during the interview process, and how the community involvement was explained to me.  From a business sense, I felt that I could be working with a team(community) that really enjoys and believes in their product.  Well week 1 validated those thoughts!
Coming off a major flood, week 1 has been interesting.  It has allowed me to observe, and take part in, a lot of different task.  I have so many thank you comments to pass along.  The community involvement has been very refreshing! I wish you all could see the excitement, and relief, on our faces when we arrived at locations for cleanup and found that numerous piles were already created.  We have even had park areas that were 100% cleaned up by volunteers.  I have also witnessed community members communicating needs, painting, pruning, cleaning perennial beds, watering flowers, and relocating boats to help with resetting docks.  This is just in 4 days!  The community involvement has really helped us with getting back on track.
My last thank you is to the staff at Choctaw.  It’s been very encouraging to see, and feel, the passion that the police, office and grounds staff have for this community.  I truly get the sense that this is “not just another job”.  I have a feeling that many of you already know this.  Not every business, or community, can say that about their staff.  Thank you team!
I am excited for the future of the Choctaw community.  I am happy to be here!  A lot can be accomplished with positive attitudes.
I did take the opportunity to take in a beautiful sunrise this week.  Not too many people have this office view!
Thank you!
Mike Casimir
