Last Cast of the Summer Event!

August 28, 2017

The Lake Water Quality Committee held an event, Last Cast of the Summer, for local farmers in our watershed. Committee members participating in the event were: Lynn Forster, Scott Kutzley, Lyle Fast and Barb Niemeyer. Also participating were Julia Cumming of Madison Soil and Water, Mary Griffith of OSU Extension and Madison County Wildlife Officer Matt Teders. The event included a round table discussion of conservation efforts in our watershed, a guided boat tour of CHOCTAW Lake water quality initiatives and fishing with Matt Teders.

During the meeting, maps created by Eric Thomas, were studied by our guest.  Eric is a student member of the Choctaw community.  This summer Eric, a student at Colorado State, interned with the Lake Water Quality Committed.  He focused on our creeks and watersheds to gather key information for strategies to improve the quality of incoming water.  These maps are very important as we continue to learn and work with our neighbors towards improving the quality of our lake water.
