Summer Concert Series July 9th!

July 6, 2022

With all the rain this week, you have had some great days to rest up from the holiday weekend. The summer fun at Choctaw Lake does not stop at the Independence Day weekend! The Music Club and the SCS sponsor Ernie’s Pharmacy have not one but two bands queued up for this Saturday. The weather this weekend is forecasted to be great. Head on down to the Arrowhead to grab a Schmidt’s Bahama Mama sausage, a cone from M&T, and to support musical talent. Below is the lineup info!

The Buttermilk Biscuit Boys

July 9 (Saturday) 7 to 8:15 PM

Schmidt’s/M&T’s Twisted Treats

The Buttermilk Biscuit Boys are a band that infuses itself with a rich traditional sound which comes from the love of traditional bluegrass. Leading the group is Terry Dennison (aka Sweet T) with a sound that originates from his family heritage, and from listening to the likes of Ronnie Bowman, Lester, Skaggs, Del, Doyle and many more.  His powerful vocals give the engine to the Buttermilk Biscuit Boys. Filling in the middle is Dwight Wright (aka Baby Face) providing that steady chop and those fancy licks on the mandolin. If he is not playing a mandolin he is building one. Dwight also provides vocals both as a lead and harmony. Next is Tyler Ashcraft (aka Smiley) on the Banjo. Tyler puts the “D” in drive and “B” in bluegrass.  Better have your picks on tight when he kicks it.  He loves the old timey tunes and this can be heard it in his pickin. Rounding out the group is Jerry Murnahan (aka Pork Chop) helping give the Buttermilk Biscuit Boys it’s heartbeat which competes a traditional, fun for the whole family, bring your dancing shoes type of atmosphere.

Lake Effect

July 9 (Saturday) 8:30 to 10:45

Schmidt’s/M&T’s Twisted Treats

Lake Effect is a “high energy” classic rock band that plays primarily 60’s to 80’s rock, classic country, and modern rock/pop songs. Members are Dan Blazer, Larry Daniel and Ernie Sparks (all from Choctaw Lake) and together they have over 100 years of experience in the music business.  For this concert, a very special guest, Johnny Alexander (a well-known keyboardist from the Columbus area), will join the band.   The members of Lake Effect have played a wide range of music in their careers including rock, country, bluegrass, New Orleans jazz and big-band music.  Members of the band have shared the stage with national recording acts such as The Doors, Kenny Rodgers, Little Anthony and Paul Revere and the Raiders. Lake Effect prides themselves in paying attention to detail in playing music as the original authors meant it to be played.  They keep the party going with high energy songs such as: “Start Me Up,” “Shut Up and Dance With Me,” “Black is Black,” “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” “Sunshine of Your Love,” and” Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen.”
