9:00 A.M. any Wednesday you’ll find a group of Lake residents at the Lodge in downward dog pose, standing like a tree and using words like warrior, sukhsana, tadasana and savasana. These folks are practicing yoga with the Over 55 Yoga Club. The club is open to any Lake resident 55 years of age and over.
The group practices the Hatha form of yoga. Hatha yoga is a generic term that refers to any type of yoga that teaches physical postures and yoga breathing. Nearly every type of yoga class taught in the West is Hatha and generally means you will get a gentle introduction to the most basic yoga postures. You probably won’t work up a sweat in Hatha yoga class, but you should end up leaving class feeling longer, looser, more relaxed, strengthened and more flexible.
Yoga is a great way to improve your general well being. Experts say after one class you experience more flexibility, improved brain function and lower stress levels. After a few months you may have less anxiety, lower blood pressure, better balance and increased lung capacity.
To participate you will need loose comfortable clothing (no jeans), a yoga mat, large beach towel or blanket and a bottle of water. This class is for any fitness level and chair options are available. The classes are free.
Join your neighbors and meet new friends at 9:00 A.M. Wednesdays at the Lodge. Be sure and sign up for Over 55 Yoga Club under the group section on NextDoor for up to the minute information about classes or call Denise at 740-852-5783.
