Below is the post from Fishing Committee member Keith O’Conner. Thanks again to the fishing committee for studying and recommending the proper fish to ensure Choctaw Lake remains the best place to fish for years to come.
A special thank you to Cailyn O’Conner. She was an outstanding helper with releasing the fish into the lake. Cailyn loves to fish at the lake! In fact, she began fishing when she was 4 years old! Cailyn is now 9. Rumor has it that one of her favorite fish to catch is……shark!! Of course you will not catch a shark in Choctaw Lake, but thanks to Cailyn and the fishing committee the lake has recently been stocked with Wipers and Red-Ear Shell Crackers.
Fish committee fish stocking (Posted by Keith O’Conner)
This past Friday (May 4th) we received the final delivery of fish for this year’s stocking of the lake. We put in 175 wipers which are a white bass/striped bass hybrid. These were in addition to a previous delivery of 900 red-ear shellcracker. I have included pictures of the wiper that were stopped and one that was caught here at the lake a few years ago as well as a stock photo of a red-eared shellcracker to give an idea of how big they can grow. This is the second year for the shell crackers so if anyone is catching them please let us know on Nextdoor. Just a reminder for everyone wipers and bass are catch-and-release only. Happy fishing.
