The Dredge Report

July 26, 2017

Heartland Dredging will begin the lake’s dredge project on August 1.  Over the next 2-3 months, they will remove 40,000 cu. yds. of sediment from the south end of the lake.

Heartland would like to rent a house for their employees to use while working at the lake.  If you know of a furnished house that will be available for the next couple months, contact Lynn Forster (email: Forster.4@osu.edu; phone: 614-257-8161).

Hydraulic dredging machinery will be used for the project.  In that process, a cutter with steel blades dislodges sediment, and a pump moves a sediment/water mix through pipe to a disposal basin.  Water is drained off in the disposal basis, and sediment is left to dry.   The disposal basin will be located south of the lake and will allow the sediment/water mix to remain in the basin long enough for solids to settle.  Relatively clear water will be returned to the lake.  After drying for a year or two, solids will be available for use as fill or topsoil.

Next week, we should see the sediment basin constructed and pipe assembled.  Heartland personnel will make every effort to minimize the impact of its operation on lake users.
