We will be planting the summer flower display next week. As many know, I do not reuse the bulbs. I really don’t even make an effort to remove them. My preference is to plant new bulbs each year to change up color schemes and to ensure a great bloom.
Every year, I have requests from property owners to save bulbs. As stated above, I do not take the extra time to pull the bulbs out. If you are interested in bulbs, feel free to use the time between 5/19 and 5/23 to dig them out. You can take whatever you dig.
Please do the following if you choose to dig up the bulbs.
- Shake off as much soil as possible back in the bed.
- Take the foliage with you. Do not leave the foliage laying in the planting bed. You can throw the foliage away at your house.
- Level out the area that you disturbed. Please don’t leave holes.
- Be careful and have fun playing in the dirt! (The easiest way to pop them out is with a shovel. They don’t always pull right out)
