Winter Pool: Lake Lowering

November 1, 2017

Hello – My team worked through today’s weather conditions to stay on schedule with opening up the valve to initiate the lake lowering process to achieve winter pool.  It will take a few days before the water level reaches winter pool level.  In saying that, the process will be a bit delayed as we continue to get rain.  Again valve is now open so as water intake reduces, the lake will begin to lower.

Included in the scope of work, the team cleaned off debris from the grates, and greased the threads of the valve.  Good work guys.  A special thanks to Tim Good for constructing the black valve key you see pictured below.  In past years a pipe wrench was used to turn the valve wheel.  MUCH EASIER this time around!  Thanks Tim!  Great idea!

Debris was removed from the grates.  The valve threads are under the white pvc cover.

.

Valve wheel installed to open the valve.  The threads were greased once valve was open.  Greasing the threads is standard yearly maintenance.

The black valve key was used to provide more leverage to open the valve.  As you can imagine, the pressure of the water against the valve does not make it easy to open the valve.  Tim’s great idea was very successful in making this process much easier.
